We're taking part in the Shitbox Rally Spring 2023 driving our shitbox from Port Douglas to Adelaide in October.
Why give up a reliable car for a Shitbox and drive more than 3000km on dusty roads camping in a moderately reliable $1,500 vehicle?
Rather than be bystanders and watch things happen to loved ones, we have decided to do something about it.
Both of our lives have been impacted by family, friends and loved ones who have suffered through Cancer, so taking part in this rally enables us to:
- Help save people we don’t even know the agony, pain & despair that cancer presents.
- Be a participant in the game of life & help.
- Contribute to something bigger than ourselves and give back
- Contribute towards the greater good of humanity
While we have set a modest fundraising goal of $25,000 for the rally, the real motivation is to honour those loved friends and family who have passed due to Cancer or have benefited from the funding into research that has enabled more and more cancers to be treated and managed so life is preserved.
Ben is doing this to honour his wife (Lori) who is currently in remission after undergoing chemotherapy, radiation and surgery in 2019 for breast cancer (ad about her journey here https://theinappropriategiftco.com/blogs/making-life-fun-again/tagged/the-c-word). Ben wants to do what he can to help others who are going through their own cancer journey whether that be treatment or supporting those who are.
Craig is doing to this to honour and pay respect to the lives of two much loved work colleagues
- Colin Bruce – Brain Cancer (Royal and SunAlliance/ Deposit Power) GO MAGPIES!
- Frank Zlendich – Pancreatic Cancer (QBE) GO DOGS!
Both of these blokes had growing family’s. They never got to see their children graduate from primary school, their first day of high school, their graduation, their fist job and even their first partners. The list goes on. . . .
They left behind devoted partners who they loved dearly & a wide net of mates who would fall on a sword for them and a distraught family.
I wish they were still here ☹
Not to mention, a very close friend of mine, Nick Bohm who lost his mum to Pancreatic Cancer very recently after a very very short illness – As a mark of respect to mothers all round the world who are no longer with us.
PLEASE DONATE GENEROUSLY
These funds go to the Cancer Council and we are extremely proud to be doing our part to support such a worthy charity. The fundraising is the hard part, so any donation you can give is greatly appreciated. Please make sure to follow our progress via this page and the blog post below.
PS _ We are on the search for the SHITTEST SHITBOX that will do justice to the SHITBOX Rally name
Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,500, on a 7 day drive across Australia to raise money for cancer research.
The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.
Shitbox Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.
Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.
Thanks to the community funds raised such as Shitbox Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.
$50 million over the past 15 years has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:
These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
